Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I write about life as a Christian wife, mother of eight children, and grandmother.

2021 Christmas Picture Books

2021 Christmas Picture Books

The Rankin Family 2021 Christmas book list is here!

I almost titled this post “Diverse Christmas Picture Books: Our 2021 Reading List.” But as I scanned over the list one last time, I realized that description doesn’t fit perfectly. I have curated a list intentionally to have a variety of cultures represented in our reading. But it is equally important to me to include books that represent disabilities. If someone is looking for a list strictly with non-white story characters, my book list won’t meet the expectation. But there are a number of books that fit that description, a couple with characters with disability, some favorite faith selections, and some are included just for the silliness and fun they provide. Perhaps you will find a new-to-you title to add to your own family reading this holiday season.

We will read a book each day in December leading up to Christmas, thus there are twenty-four books on this list. Last year I invested in cloth drawstring bags for our books and will be using those as the wrapping again this year. Nathaniel’s ability to sit for a story is continually growing, and I am happy to add longer stories with more complicated themes this year.

We don’t own twenty-four Christmas books. I get many of them from the library. Our library allows patrons to front load renewals. I request Christmas books mid October which means I’m usually checking them out before Halloween. Because of people like me, library shelves are often depleted of Christmas picture books by Thanksgiving. Sorry. At least I’m telling you my secrets. Our personal Christmas book collection has grown over the years too. A word of caution, some books on my list are out of print; that happens when you’ve been collecting children’s books for over three decades. If you search for a title seen here and see some crazy high prizes like $800 for a paperback, know that there are countless other stories equally as good at a fair market value. I keep my Christmas book wish list on my phone and thrift shop for them year around.. Christmas books often turn up at Goodwill, garage sales, and community book fairs in July.

On to the important stuff… the books! Each book photo and title is an Amazon link where you can read descriptions and reviews to decide if the book is right for your family. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Site Members! Member area will have an additional 2021 Christmas Book List blog post that will include a calendar sharing the order I will use the books and some enrichment activities that I have plan for each title. Look for that in your member area. Interested in joining? You can find more information here.
